Here at the BBQ institute we define grilling as the quick barbecuing of tend cuts of meat.  Barbecue is the slower smoking of Tough cuts to make them tender.  We stay out of the whole BBQ versus Grilling debate.  To us sharing great food with friends and loved ones is far more important the debating words.

Class Overview

Come join grand champion pit master Konrad "Teddy Bear" Haskins for an informal backyard barbecue where you will learn how to take your skills to the next level. As an experienced caterer, restaurateur and competitor he knows how to barbecue everything from an intimate dinner for two to lunch for 5,000 soldiers returning from Iraq. His love of barbecue started while watching his grandfather cook whole steers on a spit when he was five. He now combines a lifetime of teaching and cooking with food science to help his students understand how to cook better barbecue. Our classes give you the knowledge to use different techniques successfully on everything from a propane grill to a trailered smoker. With the internet full of confusing and contradictory advice, the BBQ Institute® classes provide a clear and easy to follow road map to success. Our definition of success is when you go home and cook barbecue that impresses those you care about. We offer email support to graduates to guarantee your BBQ is better than ever. Given peoples busy lives and tight budgets we prototyped a new six hour class at the Arbor Gate (Tomball, TX)  in June.  The response was very positive. We had a group of 16 show up under the blazing Texas sun.  No one left early and they gave glowing reviews to Beverly who owns the Arbor Gate.  Many also asked for and we are offering a second six hour class covering chicken, pork ribs and sides.

 
BBQ 091 Texas Beef, Beans and Biscuits and BBQ 092 Barbecue Chicken, Pork Ribs and sides each cost $129 or $258 for both. The material covered is very similar to our $299 BBQ 101.  This very competitive pricing is pre-discount, so no other discounts are available.

 

Instructor

  • Grand Champion Pitmaster Konrad "Teddy Bear" Haskins
    Konrad Haskins started by watching his Oupa (Grandpa) cooking whole steers on a spit at age 5.  After working and teaching in aviation and computers in 2002 he started competing.  His competition career has seen success all over the US and Canada including cooking and winning awards at the elite invitation only world championship level.  He has appeared on TV, radio, newspapers and magazines, including Food TV and the Wall Street Journal. In 2003 Konrad went full time professional pitmaster.  In 2004 he Started the BBQ Institute®, which is now his full time career.
